I work on contract for a large government agency where I creatively apply technology to solve complex problems. While I've been involved in an array of projects over the past seven years, my work today is typically related to network services, network management, and application development.
I run a web studio called Layer 8. Together with long-time friends and colleagues, I provide web strategy, consulting, design, and development services to organizations of all shapes and sizes. Layer 8 also works behind the scenes for other designers, making their projects a success.
My wife and I recently started Hog & Cannon, a photography business that combines my love of motorcycles, photography, and the web.
Personally
I'm married to an amazing woman and have four great kids. I spent most of my life in a small West Michigan town and moved to Northern Virginia in 2004. I love to write, take pictures, play guitar, and ride my motorcycle.
About This Site
After a long and rocky relationship with blogging, I decided to take another run at it. Born 11.1.11, jaybenfield.com is an outlet for me to write about my professional and personal interests. There may be more of a slant to the professional side, as I like helping people. It's not that sharing my favorite coffee or microbrew doesn't help people in a way, but I've learned a lot over the long and windy road of my career, business endeavors, and life that may be of more value.
